As part of National Shakespeare Week to mark 450 years since Shakespeare’s birth, a group of actors from the Ormerod trust for people with learning disabilities performed Macbeth to pupils from Year 6 at Thames Primary School in Blackpool. The Three Piers Drama Group have been working on the production since January and decided to invite children from Thames Primary to watch the performance and to interact with the actors during their workshop style show. The class had already been learning about Shakespeare and enthusiastically joined in with suggestions for disgusting ingredients for the witches’ cauldron! Later in the performance they were invited to join Macduff’s army and defeat Macbeth with daggers (cardboard of course!) and branches in hand! Children joined the actors onstage at the end for a dance and their teachers declared that they witnessed ‘barriers being broken down’ as the pupils happily engaged with the actors.
