Activate Drama group, under the umbrella of the Ormerod Trust, perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream to St Mary’s Primary School, Fleetwood to celebrate National Shakespeare Week.
As part of National Shakespeare Week to mark 450 years since Shakespeare’s birth, a group of actors from the Ormerod trust for people with learning disabilities performed A Midsummer Night’s Dream to pupils from Year 5 at St Mary’s Primary School in Fleetwood. Activate Drama Group have been working on the production since January and decided to invite children from St Mary’s to watch the performance and to interact with the actors during their workshop style show. The children met up with Activate at Fleetwood Library where they were warmly welcomed. The class had already been learning about Shakespeare and enthusiastically joined in with suggestions for magic spells to help Puck undo the mess made by fairy magic during the story! The children also helped create atmosphere by being virtual trees to create the woods where the action takes place! Children chatted happily with the actors onstage at the end of the performance. Everyone declared it was a very successful afternoon and Activate hope to develop other projects with local schools in the future.
They will also be reprising their performance in April for the Blackpool Shakespeare Festival!
